An Ordinance to make further provision as to the amount of the salaries payable in respect of certain officers, and to make consequential amendments in the enactments relating thereto
Commencement. 1st January 1977
Short title
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Statutory Salaries Ordinance.
Remuneration of certain officers
2. (1) Subject to the provisions of this Ordinance, there shall be paid to the holders of the offices to which this Ordinance applies -
Schedule
(a) the salaries and other remuneration prescribed by the Schedule to this Ordinance; and
(b) the allowances prescribed from time to time in the National Conditions of Service, whether these allowances relate to the holders of the offices to which this Ordinance applies or to officers generally or to officers in a similar grade.
(2) This Ordinance applies to the offices of Speaker, Chief Justice, Attorney-General, Director of Audit, Commissioner of Police and Chairman and other members of the Public Service Commission.
(3) The date upon which a person becomes or ceases to be the holder of any office described in Column 1 of the Schedule shall be published in the Gazette, which shall be conclusive for the purposes of subsection (1) of the entitlement or disentitlement of that person to the amount stated in relation to his office in Column 2 of the Schedule with effect from that date.
(4) For the purposes of this Ordinance, no account shall be taken of any payment to the holder of any office to which this Ordinance applies which is not ultimately payable out of the revenues of the government of Kiribati.
Salaries charged on Consolidated Fund
3. The amounts payable under section 2 shall be charged on and payable out of the Consolidated Fund.
Amendments to Schedule
4. An amendment made to the Schedule may be made with retrospective effect to any date not before 1st January 1977 specified in the amendment.
