AN ACT TO AMEND THE EMPLOYMENT ORDINANCE (CAP.30)

Commencement:
2000

MADE by the Maneaba ni Maungatabu and assented to by the Beretitenti.

Short Title

1. This Act may be cited as the Employment (Amendment) Act 2000.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on a date to be fixed by the Minister.

Interpretation

3. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires –

"principal Act" means the Employment Ordinance (Cap. 30).

Application of Act

4. This Act binds the Republic of Kiribati.

Amendment of Section 35(3)(a)

5. Section 35(3)(a) is amended by –

(a) deleting the figure "25" between the words "than" and "workers" and substituting it with the figure "30"; and

(b) deleting the word "or" at the end of the provision and substituting it with the word "and".

EMPLOYMENT (AMENDMENT) ACT 2000

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

The object of the Act is to amend the section in order to give power to an employer to increase the number of workers to be recruited at one time.

The Act also impose a requirement on the employer, that if more than 30 workers are needed, the employer is to use the professional recruiter or the island council that is situated on the island.
