CUSTOMS TARIFF (REDUCTION AND ELIMINATION OF TARIFFS) REGULATIONS 2007
PURSUANT to Section 7 of the Customs Tariffs Act 1982 Cabinet makes the following regulations.
GENERAL
1 Name
These Regulations may be cited as the Customs Tariff (Reduction and Elimination of Tariffs) Regulations 2007, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Niue Customs Tariff (General Amendments) Regulations 1997.
2 Interpretation
(1) In these Regulations -
"Least Developed Country" means a Party to the PICTA that is for the time being designated as a Least Developed Country by the United Nations;
"Small Island States" means the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Republic of Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and any other State, Territory or Self-Governing entity that becomes a party to PICTA;
"PICTA" means the Pacific Islands Countries Trade Agreement;
"Tariff Schedule" means the Pacific Harmonised Customs Tariff Schedule for Niue referred to in the Niue Customs Tariff (General Amendments) Regulations 1997.
3 Objectives
(1) The object of these Regulations is to implement the PICTA by eliminating trade barriers with -
(a) Tariff reduction with effect as of the date these Regulations are passed; and
(b) Elimination of tariffs for excepted imports from Small Islands States and Least Developed Countries.
4 Third Schedule
The Tariff Schedule is hereby amended by inserting after the Second Schedule the following Schedule:
SCHEDULE
TIMETABLES FOR REDUCTION AND ELIMINATION OF TARIFFS
Ad valorem tariffs on originating goods which are imported into Niue shall be reduced and eliminated according to the following timetable:

5 Repeal
(1) The Customs Tariff (Reduction and Elimination of Tariffs) Regulations 2006 are repealed.
