CRIMINAL OFFENCES (AMENDMENT) ACT

AN ACT
TO AMEND THE CRIMINAL OFFENCES ACT

[10th July, 2000]

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:-

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Act 2000.

(2) The Criminal Offences Act (Cap. 18) as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Section 24 of the Principal Act is amended as follows-

(i) by adding the word "committed" between the words "imprisonment" and "during" where they appear in paragraphs (b) and (c) of subsection (3);

(ii) by adding a new paragraph (e) to subsection (3)-

"(e) In special circumstances the court may release an offender from the operation of paragraph (c) and may extend the original period of suspension for a further period not exceeding 1 year."
