LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY (AMENDMENT) ACT 1990

AN ACT

TO AMEND THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ACT

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature if the Kingdom as follows:

1. (1) This Act may be cites as the Legislative Assembly (Amendment) Act 1990.

(2) The Legislative Assembly Act, as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Section 11 of the Principal Act is amended-

(a) by renumbering subsection (2) thereof as subsection (3);

(b) by inserting the following as subsection (2):

"(2) Where a member of the Legislative Assembly retires on medical grounds on the recommendation of a medical doctor it shall be lawful for His Majesty in Council to grant a gratuity to such member in a capital sum or by instalments at the rate and amount set out in subsection (1) for a deceased member."

3. Section 17 of the Principal Act is amended by deleting the words "during the session" and substituted therefore "and staff during and between sessions of the Legislative Assembly".
