MAINTENANCE OF DESERTED WIVES (AMENDMENT) ACT 1989

AN ACT
TO AMEND THE MAINTENANCE OF DESERTED WIVES ACT

[14th September, 1989]

BE IT ENACTED by the King and the Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Maintenance of Deserted Wives (Amendment) Act 1989.

(2) The Maintenance of Deserted Wives Act (Cap. 31 [1988 Ed]), as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Section 2 of the Principal Act is amended –

by deleting the word "or" at the end of paragraph (b) thereof and inserting the following in its stead:

"and may in addition or as a further alternative to such order."

(ii) by renumbering paragraph (c) thereof as paragraph (d);

(iii) by inserting the following as the new paragraph (c):

"(c) order that either the wife or the husband shall have custody of the children; or"
