Act 29 of 1990
AN ACT TO AMEND THE POLICE ACT
I assent,
TAUFA'AHAU TUPOU IV,
18th February, 1991
[13th November, 1990]
BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:
1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Police (Amendment) Act 1990.
(2) The Police Act as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.
2. Section 22(2) of the Principal Act is repealed and replaced with the following:
"(2) If it is not practicable to bring the person arrested before a Magistrate having jurisdiction within 24 hours after he has been so taken into custody, the police officer of the rank of sergeant or above or the police officer in charge of the police station shall inquire into the case and shall grant or withhold bail in accordance with the Bail Act 1990".
3. Section 23 of the Principal Act is repealed.
Passed in the Legislative Assembly this 13th day of November, 1990.
