AN ACT RELATING TO THE OFFENCE OF TAKING HOSTAGES[1]
Commencement [1 January 1985]

1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Hostages Act.
2 Hostage taking
(1) A person, whatever his nationality, who, in Tuvalu or elsewhere —
(a) detains any other person; and
(b) in order to compel a State, international or governmental organization or person to do or not to do some act, threatens to kill or injure, or to continue to detain, the hostage,
is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for life.
(2) In subsection (1)(b), "the hostage" means the person referred to in subsection (1)(a).
3 Prosecution or offences
Proceedings for an offence against section 2 may be instituted only by or with the consent of the Attorney General.
