WIRELESS TELEGRAPH (SHIPS)
To control the use of wireless telegraph apparatus on merchant vessels in Vanuatu.
1. Rules for working
All apparatus for wireless telegraphy on board merchant ships in the territorial waters of Vanuatu shall be worked in such a way as not to interfere with –
(a) naval signalling;
(b) the working of any wireless telegraph station lawfully established, installed or worked in Vanuatu or the territorial waters thereof; and
(c) the transmission of any messages between wireless telegraph stations established as aforesaid on land and wireless telegraph stations established on ships at sea.
2. Apparatus not to be used in port except by permission
No apparatus for wireless telegraph on board a merchant ship shall be worked or used while the ship is in any of the harbours of Vanuatu except with the special or general permission of the Minister responsible for telecommunications.
3. Minister may issue further rules
The Minister responsible for telecommunications shall have power to issue such further rules as may seem expedient for the control of wireless telegraphy on merchant vessels and for the censorship of messages transmitted from such vessels while in the territorial waters of Vanuatu.
4. Penalties
Any infraction of this Act shall be punishable on conviction by a fine not exceeding VT 30,000 and by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 1 month or with one or other of these penalties.
