CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE (PORT VILA)

Order 15 of 1995

An Order to establish the Port Vila Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

1. Definitions
In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires:

“Act” means the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Vanuatu Act [Cap. 236];

“Chamber” means the Port Vila Chamber of Commerce and Industry;

“Council” means the Council of the Port Vila Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

3. Term of office of the members of the Council of the Port Vila Chamber of Commerce and Industry

(3) The term of office, unless or until the Chamber otherwise decides, for elected members of the Council shall be 2 years.

(4) Each year elections shall be held for the seats vacated by elected members of the Council who have arrived at the end of their term of office at the Annual General Meeting of the Chamber.

4. Filling of vacant positions in the Council of the Port Vila Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(1) A member of the Council ceases to be a member, and his or her position is declared to be vacant, when –

(a) he or she has not been present or represented by proxy at 3 successive properly convened meetings of the Council; or

(b) he or she resigns in writing to the Council.

(2) The Council shall have the power to nominate any ordinary member to fill a position in the Council which becomes vacant but only for the remaining portion of the position’s current term of office. Any such nomination shall be made from the same category in which the vacancy occurred.

5. Local Chambers
(1) It shall be the duty of the Council to assist in the establishment of the Local Chambers.
