AMENDMENT ACT NO.10 OF 2002
An Act to amend the National Tourism Office Act [CAP 142]
Be it enacted by the President and Parliament as follows-
The National Tourism Office Act [CAP 142] is amended as set out in the Schedule and item 1 of the Schedule has effect according to its terms.
This Act commences on the date on which it is published in the Gazette.
SCHEDULE
AMENDMENTS OF THE NATIONAL TOURISM OFFICE ACT
1 Change of name
(1) The National Tourism Office must be known and cited for all purposes by the name the Vanuatu Tourism Office.
(2) In every context in which the National Tourism Office is mentioned:
- (a) in the Principal Act; or
- (b) in any other written law; or
- (c) in any notice, permit, receipt, communication, form or other document issued, made, required or authorised by or under the Principal Act or any other written law,
there must be substituted for the words "National Tourism Office" the words "Vanuatu Tourism Office".
2 Subsection 5(1)
Delete “ten”, substitute “twelve”.
3 Paragraph 5(1)(f)
Repeal the paragraph.
Repeal the subsection, substitute
"(3) The Minister is to appoint a member to be the Chairman of the Office.".
Insert
"(3A) The following four persons are the remaining members of the Office:
(a) a person appointed by the Minister;
(b) the chairman of the Santo Tourism Association;
(c) the President of the Tafea Tourism Council;
(d) the Director of the National Tourism Development Office.”.
Repeal the section, substitute
“6 Deputy Chairman
The Deputy Chairman is to be elected by the Office from amongst its members.".

Explanatory Note
The purpose of this Bill is to change the name of the National Tourism Office, and to amend the National Tourism Office Act [CAP. 142].
Item 1 of the Schedule changes the name of the National Tourism Office to Vanuatu Tourism Office
Items 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the Schedule amend section 5 of the National Tourism Office Act and provide for:
(a) the membership to be increased from ten to twelve; and
(b) the Minister to appoint the Chairman of the Office; and
(c) the composition of the Office to include representatives from Tanna and Santo.
Item 6 of the Schedule is a consequential amendment and replaces section 6.
